This is Halloween everybody make a scene! It’s spooky season here in Newark & Sherwood, the most glorious time of year. Whether you fancy yourself a Ghostbuster or a Sanderson Sister, want to do the Monster Mash, become part of the Addams Family or simply have a Thriller of a night – we’ve got you covered!
Family Fun
For those who have little angels or devils we’ve got our fair share of spooky activities for the young’un’s to sink their teeth into.
The Workhouse Pumpkin Trail – 20th October – 31st October
The Workhouse will have a pumpkin trail for children to follow and find pumpkins from the garden. Open 12 noon to 5pm each day. Free event but normal admission charges apply.
Halloween Monster Hunt – 20th October – 4 November
Head to the National Civil War Centre in Newark for family spooky fun.
Gather round this Haunted Halloween for the spooky story for some frightful fighters. Did you know that the first great battle of the Civil War was fought twice, once by humans and once by the ghosts of slain soldiers?
Resident expert Dr Edvard von Goosechaser invites you to experience the terrible tale of the fallen army that refused to stay dead and to create some Ghastly Ghouls and ghostly decorations of your own!
Thoresby Halloween Trick or Treat Tail – 27th October – 4th November
Come and wander around the haunted grounds looking for clues, maybe venture into the forbidden forest, but don’t get lost…see whether you get a trick or a treat at the ghoulish touchy feely Halloween boxes!
Tickets available at the Visit Centre, only £1 per trail.
White Post Farm Halloween Festival – 27th October – 4th November
You can learn to ride a broomstick at Broomstick School, get your hands dirty at a Slime workshop, watch some magic tricks and pick/carve your very own pumpkin!
Go-Active Falconry will be there with their birds of prey, as well as farm fave Sam the Entertainer! Not to mention all the animal activities and the last Sheep Races of the season.
Fancy dress very welcome!

For you seasoned Ghostbuster we have some activities to get your hear pounding and your knees a ‘quacking!
Thoresby Park Ghost Hunt – 26th October
Join Thoresby for a Halloween Special evening of paranormal investigation. Meet Lee Roberts and the team of investigators from Haunted Events UK, you’ll be briefed about the evening activities and then sent out to specific locations around the park to investigate with the help of vintage and modern paranormal tools.
Are you brave enough to encounter the darkness?
Starts at 8pm and continues until around 2am.

Haunted Happenings at Newark Castle – 27th October & 31st October
Newark Castle offers a ghost hunt like no other and this haunted castle has regular reports of paranormal activity and ghostly sightings. Tales of murder, treason and the black arts await those who venture here after dark so if you’re daring enough to endure a night within these scarred, centuries-old walls then join the Haunted Happenings team as they attempt to make contact with the spirits and ghosts that lurk there. Begins at 9pm and continues until 3am.
Sleepy Hollow – 31st October
Join the National Civil War Centre for a unique cinematic experience with this spooktacular screening of Tim Burton’s classic blood and bustles ghost story in the evocative atmosphere of the authentic Tudor Hall. Starring Johnny Depp as quirky constable Ichabod Crane and with a stellar supporting cast including Michael Gambon, Miranda Richardson and Christopher Walken as well as buckets of blood and scares aplenty, this is the perfect way to spend Halloween night!
Haunted Heritage at The Museum of Timekeeping – 10th November
Haunted Heritage, the company that undertakes paranormal investigations and historical ghost walks, is coming to the Museum of Timekeeping at Upton Hall, near Southwell. On 10th November, there will be a paranormal investigation of this Grade II building.
The event takes place from 8pm to 1am, tickets cost £37 and are available from www.hauntedheritage.co.uk. Guests must be aged 18 years and over.
