Its summer time which means a legend of old is stirring in Sherwood Forest, an adventure waiting to begin, a festival of family fun…

The Robin Hood Festival 2019!Robin Hood

Returning for its 35th year (wowzas) from the 5th to the 11th August, this week long festival is a firm favourite in the Sherwood calendar and celebrates all things Robin Hood.

This year promises to be better than ever – join in, dress up, take part and enjoy seven days of re-enactment, song, dance, storytelling, skirmishing and adventures with the outlaws. You might even meet the legend himself…

Watch the Legend Unfold

Every year the Robin Hood Festival is the perfect opportunity to make lasting memories with family and friends, discover the Forest like never before and create your own timeless adventures! This year is no different, with brilliant have-a-go activities, stunning live shows and intriguing stalls and traders.

Jousting at the Robin Hood Festival 2019Jousting makes its triumphant return to the festival this year as Cavalry of Heroes display their spectacular show featuring horse stunts, archery, staff fighting and more! Watch as Robin returns to the saddle and re-lives our favourite tales of action, swordplay and saving Nottinghamshire once again from the dastardly Sheriff. These awesome shows have specifically designed for the festival and Sherwood Forest will be the only place you can watch them! There will be three Grand Tournaments held daily in the area – each will be jam-packed with action, sword fighting, archery and jousting. What more could you want?

Remember to watch out for the wonderful performers roaming the forest! Comedy, magic tricks, potions, medieval music, falconry, wacky characters and tricks and stunts; the Robin Hood Festival performers are a weird and wacky, but brilliant bunch!

Want to know who is performing what on the day you’re coming? Want to know which times you can catch a Grand Tournament? Read the RSPB’s day-by-day festival schedule to see for yourself when your favourite act is performing and plan your fun-filled day:

Begin Your Own Adventure

Robin Hood Festival 2019Every year the festival brings together some of the best traders and stallholders to show off their wares and talents – this year is no exception. From medieval artwork, to have-a-go-archery, to a falconry and activity zone, to charities wanting to preserve our beautiful Forest, to stalls with a variety of delicious food and drink; this festival has it all. Check out the Festival webpage to discover for yourself who will be at the festival.

The lovely, new, Visitor Centre will be open for the entirety of the festival so you can grab a selection of refreshments, including meals, sandwiches and hot and cold drinks at any point. More importantly, you can also grab yourself a festival souvenir and your Robin Hood and Maid Marian costumes! You can also enjoy a picnic in the stunning forest – fingers crossed this good weather holds out because that would be glorious!

The centre stage for the whole week is of course, our favourite outlaw’s famous hideout – the Major Oak. Discover the tales behind the UK’s favourite tree and enjoy a hog roast or yummy ice cream from one of the stallholders that will be there showing off their wares.

Want to bring your furry friend? Then by all means do, let them create their own fun adventure in the home of Robin Woof! But do please be aware that this is a very busy event and for some doggos it might not be a comfortable environment for them. Obviously all dogs must be kept on a lead, not left in a car and must be cleaned up after. Extra points if you bring your dog dressed up as Robin Woof, remember to tag us in the pictures (any excuse to look at cute dogs really)!

The Robin Hood Festival is going to awesome, and we’re so excited to join in the fun at this legendary forest Festival! Get involved, join in the fun and begin your own adventure in the home of Robin Hood this summer.
