Christmas light switch on is always a staple part of any Christmas events calendar, but we also know how busy you are during the Christmas period so we’re going to make your life easier and run through some of the light switch on events happening in Newark & Sherwood!
Newark Christmas Lights Switch On – 25th November
11.00am – 5.30pm
Newark’s annual Christmas lights switch on is a free celebration to kick off the festive season! Enjoy a bustling craft and charity market in the market place and Buttermarket, alongside a fun fair and live music. This all leads to the big moment – to the switch-on of the UK’s largest, free standing canopy of Christmas lights and of course a fireworks display.
Edwinstowe Christmas Lights Switch On – 29th November
4.30pm – 7.00pm
Edwinstowe’s annual Christmas lights switch on will include Christmas carols, a visit from Father Christmas himself, a Christmas fair and stalls including crafts, hook a duck, face painting and food and drinks with the back of the beautiful Sherwood Forest.
4.45pm – 8.00pm
This a merry mashup of the finest aspects of Christmas! Enjoy all of Southwell’s independent shops as they open later in the evening for you to grab some beautiful Christmas gifts, alongside a Christmas market, carol singing and other festive activities.
The Christmas tree light switch on will take place at 4.45pm.
Who doesn’t love a Christmas market? A perfect opportunity to buy festive gifts for everyone, enjoy festive treats and get properly into the Christmas spirit!
Get into the festive spirit at Rufford’s first Christmas Craft market. With unique gift opportunities, hot food and Rufford’s own very special mulled wine and hot chocolate. The big man himself, Santa will make an appearance – family fun for everyone!
The annual Winterfest Arts and Crafts Fair is back at Thoresby Park’s beautiful Victorian Riding Hall on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 November, from 10am until 4pm each day.
The fair will have handmade items that support local artists and crafters and provide an opportunity for you to find some unique and special gifts! Of course Santa will be there along with free craft workshops from the Thoresby Studio Artists and carol singing from local choirs and music from bass bands.
Head to Sherwood Forest Art & Crafts Centre on Saturday 24 & Sunday 35 November for the Christmas fair, open 10am – 4pm with free entry. Father Christmas will be there on both days and Sherwood Forest Brass Band will be playing on Sunday throughout the day. All 15 Studios and the café will be open. It is the perfect place to shop for handmade and unique gifts for Christmas.
Step into a truly atmospheric celebration of Christmas as Kelham Hall & Country Park transforms into a festive traditional market on 1 & 2 December. Bring the family for an exceptional day of shopping, entertainment and all your favourite Christmas treats and eats.
Collect your free hot chocolate on arrival and wonder through the charmingly decorated stands with a diverse range of festive merchandise; relax to the uplifting sound of Christmas carols; let the children decorate a gingerbread and enjoy a warm mug of Christmas punch. The kids can also visit Santa’s Grotto and receive a gift.

This year, there is a Christmas market at the beautiful venue of Norwood Park on 2 December.

Newark Christmas Market – 15th – 16th December
Head to Newark town for a Christmas wonderland! There will be a Xmas craft fayre in the market place, carol singing, local bands, street entertainment, festive food and drink, classic cars and lots of opportunities to buy beautiful gifts and crafts.
Free parking in all council car parks on the Sunday.
