Weekends in Newark & Sherwood are always fun-filled and jam packed, however one weekend this summer promises to be better than those that have come before. From the 12th – 14th July we’ve got not just one but three, brilliant festivals happening within Newark & Sherwood. From literary havens, to foot stomping country music fun to the yummiest chilli’s the East Midlands have to offer – we’ve got it all.
Therefore, we feel it is our duty to give you a quick run down of what you can expect at these brilliant festivals. Remeber you don’t have to just attend one? Why not try and visit all three in one weekend – forget the three peaks challenge, this is the three festival challenge!
The clue is in the name: Newark Book Festival is a brilliant weekend celebration of all things literary in the heart of Newark. With over fifty events in twelve venues spanning across three days it is heaven on earth for all us bookworms. This year the theme is Home and Away – travel across the world in your imagingation as you dive head first into the literary worlds the festivals fabulous authors create. Like in previous years, some of the venues are some of the most iconic in Newark including the Palace Theatre, the Town Hall ballroom and Newark Castle. There will be a brilliant selection of Q&A panels, creative writing workshops as well as talented actors bringing to life some of our favourite stories. Additionally, as always, there will be a brilliant selection of authors on hand to part their wisdom upon us and tell us all about their creative process. Visiting authors including Joanne Harris (Chocolat), Alison Weir (Anna of Kleve: Queen of Secrets) and Mark Billingham (Their Little Secret) to name just a few.
Newark Book festival will fire your imagination, challenge and inspire you and present the very best in literature and the arts. If you want to know more about what you could discover at this festival, check out last week’s blog post where guest blogger Ellen Lavelle talks you through what the entire weekend has to offer.
